Comedian Jeff Rothpan, a veteran of the comedy club scene, has appeared six times on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.” He was only 23 years old when Mr. Leno discovered him working in a Los Angeles comedy club.
This funny Canadian who now makes his home in L.A., talks about the things we can all relate to from getting a haircut to dealing with family squabbles. He becomes outraged at the little things in life that irk us all. Critics have noted his easygoing style and dry, intelligent wit are reminiscent of the former King of late-night. After performing at the Carl Reiner Golf Charity Invitational, the LA Times referred to Jeff as “a young Johnny Carson.” He also received a favorable mention from the Hollywood Reporter for his many appearances at the prestigious “Just For Laughs” Comedy Festival in Montreal: “...A number of Just For Laughs performers managed to generate a buzz. Among the newer faces whose names were being mentioned the most: Jeff Rothpan.”
If you get Canadian television, you can see Jeff’s hilarious guest appearances on “Big Sound.” He has had the privilege of touring as the opening act for Jim Carrey. He has also opened for Dennis Miller, The Beach Boys and Howie Mandel. Other TV shows include “Make Me Laugh” on Comedy Central, “An Evening At The Improv”, and “Comics” on CBC in Canada. His hour-long Canadian comedy special titled “Whiter than Hell” aired in December on the Canadian Comedy Network.
As an actor he has performed in several plays. The LA Weekly reviewing the recent play “Hawk Talk” said “Rothpan’s comedic skills carried the show.” He has appeared in two independent feature films, both of which appeared at the Sundance Film Festival. Jeff has hosted many live events, including his own talk show in Los Angeles.
And Jeff writes, too! He is currently writing on Canada’s “Big Sound” and has written material for Jay Leno’s “Tonight Show” monologue, Harland Williams, Rocky Laporte, and many other successful comedians. Jeff recently wrote for “Big Wolf on Campus” a comedy series on the FOX Family Channel and for the upcoming comedy series “Misguided Angels.” He has also done punch-up work on an upcoming feature film for Michael Besman, producer of the feature “The Opposite of Sex.”
