Amra-Faye's performing career grew unconventionally from the farmlands of her native South Africa to the international stage, resulting in a versatile and eclectic performance style.
She has worked in many musical genres, but has returned again and again to her love of cabaret. Her most rewarding successes include: "It's Not Where I Start"(FNB Vita Award); "Rouge Pulp"(FNB Vita Award) and "Drinks on Me".
After performing numerous contracts in the role of Velma Kelly on Broadway, she is thrilled to make her NY cabaret debut at the Metropolitan Room with illustrious Music Director/Arranger, Mark Hummel, who has written Cabaret Acts for Chita Rivera (Feinsteins), Marcia Lewis (Rainbow & Stars), Karen Akers (Carnegie Hall), and Julie Wilson (Algonquin). Mark also works with Brian Stokes Mitchell, Barbara Cook, Rufus Wainwright, Bernadette Peters, and Tommy Tune.
As Music Director for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, Hummel wrote 3 compositions for their 75th Anniversary in 2007, and this season SISTER ACT will open on Broadway for which he wrote the Dance Music. Upcoming: ROBIN & THE 7 HOODS - Music Director/Conductor.
Sittin' On Top Of The World is an evening of personal interpretations of the American Song Book, show tunes and world songs which illustrate her passion for life and tenacious insistence on making home anywhere in the world that strikes her fancy.
Amra-Faye began her career as a dancer, and "discovered" her voice while performing at the Sporting Club in Monte Carlo, which lead to 2 years starring at the Cabaret du Casino de Monte Carlo. Thereafter, she starred in many multi-million dollar musical extravaganzas across the globe, and in Southern Africa's Sun City. Theatre roles include: Vi Moore in Footloose (UK tour); Sandy in Grease (Joburg Superbowl); Sheila in A Chorus Line (Civic, Jo'burg); Mother Superior in Nunsense (Sneddon, Durban, FNB Best Actress); Jack in Jack and the Beanstalk; Mrs Darling in Peter Pan; Viva Sun City, Lead( Sun City); Elvis Las Vegas, Lead (SA tour, FNB Best Actress).
Amra-Faye has dazzled audiences all over the world as murderess Velma Kelly in Chicago, a role she has played with acclaim since 2001, and which for the past 5 years has taken her back and forth from Broadway to London's West End, and this year to Japan, where she performed the role in Japanese.
Amra-Faye is proud to be a part of Broadway in South Africa, a performance outreach organization impacting on the healthy development of youth in South Africa.
