Mike Dugan has written on television series, pilots, or specials for a long list of comedians, including Dennis Miller, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Tom Arnold, Rich Hall, Paul Rodriguez, Stephanie Miller, and even George Hamilton. In 1994 he received, along with five other writers, an Emmy Award for writing on the first season of 'Dennis Miller: Live' on HBO. The show's writers were also nominated for Cable Ace and WGA awards. Mike also co-created with Rich Hall the TV pilot "Rich Hall's Badly Funded Think Tank", filmed for the BBC in November 2001.
Mike has performed extensively throughout America, appearing at comedy clubs, colleges, corporate events, and as an opening act for musical artists such as Roy Orbison, Ricki Lee Jones, Chuck Berry, Harry Belafonte, and Shawn Colvin. He has split the last few years between the USA and England while staging his theater show 'Men Fake Foreplay', and touring his stand-up comedy act throughout the UK and Europe.
Mike grew up in Ramsey, New Jersey and began performing stand up comedy in 1985 at New York's famed 'Catch a Rising Star' comedy club alongside rising comics Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, and Jon Stewart. In early 1987 he set out for San Francisco's 'Holy City Zoo' Comedy Club to experience what was then the "hands down best comedy scene in the country", and by the end of 1988 he had won the prestigious San Francisco International Stand-up Comedy Competition. A move to Los Angeles quickly led to a shot on 'The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson'. Johnny raved, and that debut was followed by numerous other television appearances, including one more spot on "Johnny" before his retirement and another appearance with Jay Leno - making Mike one of seven comics to have performed stand up on 'The Tonight Show' with both Johnny and Jay. Most recently, he has appeared on the BBC's 'The Stand-up Show', filmed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Mike has spent the last four years touring his stand-up comedy throughout the US and the UK, having performed 'Men Fake Foreplay' in London, Paris, Amsterdam, San Francisco, and the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland. He is currently in Los Angeles scheduling a promotional tour for the book release and completing plans to stage 'Men Fake Foreplay' at a theater near you.
