John DeKoven started his comedy career to relieve his stress from "the divorce from hell", a two year marriage that took almost three to get divorced from. His comedy started out focused on the divorce, to dating again at 40, to girlfriends and to getting married again. He also likes to delve into the absurdities of everyday life, politics and religion.
Being in the suburbs there weren't a lot of options for stage time. Call it laziness, but he didn't want to make the two hour roundtrip to San Francisco to do five or ten minutes on stage. So he decided to start producing his owns shows and invited other comedians to perform as well. Laugh-A-Lot Productions was born and he was performing and producing shows at various venues throughout the East Bay.
John's latest venture is Bunjo's Comedy Lounge in Dublin, CA where he is what he likes to say the "Chief Executive Comic". Bunjo's Comedy Lounge books some of the best veteran and up and coming comedians in the Bay Area. Many of them have been on HBO, Showtime, Comedy Central, Leno, Letterman and more.
However, when it comes to the comedy world John's favorite thing to do is perform. To him it is like therapy without having to pay someone $150 an hour. He has performed all over California, one time in Winnemucca, NV at a Casino in front of five people and on a Royal Carribena Cruise, as a passenger, somewhere in the middle of the Pacific Ocean (he won the cruise talent contest).
John has performed in all sorts of different venues; coffee shops, bars, restaurants, colleges and big corporate comedy clubs. To him it doesn't matter where he performs, he just likes to get on stage do his therapy and make a connection with the audience.
