Having moved to Minnesota in 2009, Joyce returns to the Metropolitan Room with old songs, new songs and stories to tell!
Joyce Lyons Originally from Gaithersburg, MD was born to perform. Ms. Lyons (BA, Voice Performance; Colorado Women’s College; member AEA and SAG), has performed nationally in New York, Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Colorado, Minnesota, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Washington, D.C. and even Sapri, Italy; receiving conclusive critical and audience acclaim. From center stage at the Kennedy Center, to the Music Mountain Jazz Series in Falls Village, CT, and all the way to the Supreme Court (Yes, THAT, SUPREME COURT), Joyce has spread her, “joive de vivre” for jazz standards and the Great American Songbook far and wide.
Once described in Backstage magazine as “What Cabaret is all about!”, her shows are legendary among Cabaret insiders, but it was the honor of being asked to perform for Associate Justice Clarence Thomas at the Supreme Court that still leaves her speechless.
Her first jazz CD (“Sooner or Later”), received radio airplay on jazz stations all over the country and on satellite radio. “Sooner or Later” features some of New York’s finest studio musicians, including the legendary Lee Musiker (Musical Director and Arranger) and bassist extraordinaire, Jay Leonhart. “Sooner or Later” is available on cdbaby.com, iTunes and from Joyce directly at joycelyons.net. Joyce has recently added the title of coach to her resume with the introduction of her master class entitled, “Read Me a Lyric” in which she works with vocal students to help them find a deeper connection to their own material through the lyrics.
Joyce now resides in the culturally rich environs of Minneapolis! Keep up with her on her webpage (joycelyons.net), Facebook or even on MySpace! Look for her new CD, “Live at the Metropolitan Room!” soon.
