Marissa Mulder will be making her Metropolitan Room debut this June in her show Look to Your Heart. She will be singing the music of composer Jimmy Van Heusen. Like Marissa, Jimmy was from Syracuse, New York. He came to New York City in the early 1930's and went on to become one of the most successful songwriters of all time. He won four " Oscars" and one Emmy for his work. He wrote the music for twenty three Bing Crosby films including the music for the film " Going My Way" which won him his first Oscar for the song " Swinging On A Star". He wrote more songs recorded by Frank Sinatra than any other composer. He owned several of his own airplanes and created a lot of mischief starting at a young age. Marissa will be exploring the different aspects of Van Heusen as a person as well as the wide emotional range of his music, from the swinging "Kick in the Head" to tender ballads such as " Sunday, Monday, or Always" , "All My Tomorrows". and "Going My Way." Her musical director is Bill Zeffiro and her director is Karen Oberlin. She will be joined by John Loehrke on bass and Rex Benincasa on drums. There are three shows, Saturday, June 4th at 9:30pm, Wednesday, June 8th at 9:30pm and Thursday, June 16th at 7pm.
