Maria Bamford
What 38-year old comedian earned “Best of the Web” from Salon.com and the Harvard Crimson for her web series The Maria Bamford Show? What entertainer is one of Variety’s “Top Ten Comics to Watch” and was voted by Comedy Central viewers as one of their “Top Ten Favorite Comics?” What comic has appeared on both Garrison Keilor’s Prairie Home Companion and in Dave Eggers’ DVD magazine, Wholpin? Maria Bamford! That’s who!
Maria started her performing arts career in Duluth, Minnesota at the age of 11 where she starred in the Chester Park Elementary production of How the West Was REALLY Won! A short 24 years of self-discovery and secretarial work later and look at her now! Maria is the first female comic to have two half-hour Comedy Central Presents specials. She starred in the Comedy Central series, The Comedians of Comedy and Netflix’s Comedians of Comedy: The Movie. She has made multiple late-night appearances on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn and Jimmy Kimmel Live, as well as not-so-late appearances on Premium Blend, Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn and The World Comedy Tour: Melbourne 2003. Maria also appears regularly on Adult Swim’s Tim and Eric: Awesome Show and a spinoff called Check It Out (starring John C. Reilly).
Maria currently contributes comedic voiceovers for such animations as Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time, Disney Channel’s Kick Buttowski, Comedy Central’s Ugly Americans, Nickelodeon’s Kung Fu Panda, and PBS’s Emmy-winning series Word Girl. She was also a regular voice on Nickelodeon’s CatDog and Back at the Barnyard (in which she reprised the role of “Mrs. Beady” from the Nick feature Barnyard).
Maria’s writing has been featured in The Onion, The Melbourne Age, and LA Weekly. (You can read archived versions on her site, www.mariabamford.com.) She is currently working on a book about depression and mental illness with funny experiences of her own and other comedians that will be published in 2009 by Quack! Media. Her CD, Unwanted Thoughts Syndrome was released on Comedy Central Records and features a bonus DVD of the cult hit web series, The Maria Bamford Show.
