Called the “perfect fusion of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis”, by the New York Post, BOBBY COLLINS is a born story-teller - confident, charismatic and a master of the smooth delivery. Featuring RETHA JONES (Premium Blend, Last Comic Standing, StaaandUp!)
Bobby Collins is always the funniest guy in the room. With more than 200 stand-up performances around the country each year, he is a show-business institution who has made millions laugh.
A native of New York, he was literally born into comedy when his father named him for his favorite comedian, Bob Hope. In the 1980s, Bobby left a lucrative position as vice president of Calvin Klein to pursue his dream and ended up working alongside such comedy legends as Jerry Seinfeld and Jay Leno. While other comics have left stand-up behind, Bobby has kept going, preferring the intimacy and energy he finds in live clubs, theaters and casinos.
The audience at a Bobby Collins show is half the fun. Many of Bobby’s enthusiastic fans have been following him for years and know by heart some of his classic bits (“…on the inside!”). But Bobby keeps it fresh with new observations based on everyday life and his travels around the country.
Over the years, he has hosted VH-1′s “Stand Up Spotlight”; toured with Cher, Julio Iglesias, Dolly Parton and Tony Bennett, among others; and released six comedy CDs, “On the Inside,” “Out of Bounds,” “You’re Not Coming With Us,” “Mr. New York,” “I Wanna Go Home” and most recently “I’m on the Boat.” His latest DVD, “Telling It Like It Is” is available on BobbyCollins.com and will be in-stores, on Amazon and on iTunes in February.
Retha Jones, a native of Los Angeles, has been performing Stand up comedy for nearly 20 years. She began after she tried her hand in modeling and acting for 10 years. Shortly after her return from touring with America’s most successful black stage play, Shelly Garrett’s Beauty Shop, Retha’s decided to pursue a career in stand up comedy. She has since been literally tickling funny bones across America having made several club and television appearances on BET’s COMIC VIEW, Comedy Central’s PREMIUM BLEND, HBO’s DEF COMEDY JAM, and NBC's Last Comic Standing where she reached the semi finals.
In 2007, Retha placed 1st Runner Up in the Bay Area Black Comedy Competition. She was also crowned Winner of the 2007 California's Funniest Female contest, and Winner of the 1st Annual California Comedy Festival.
Retha can also be seen in various film and television projects such as UPN's One on One, Lifetime's STRONG MEDICINE, and Breakaway Film's MY BIG PHAT HIP HOP FAMILY.
In 2003 Retha was dubbed by L.A. TIMES as on of “Five To Watch.”
As a kid, I always liked comedy and would listen to albums by George Carlin, Bob Newhart, Bill Cosby, and Lenny Bruce. Despite my enjoyment of these great talents, I decided to pursue an unfunny career and left Los Angeles for San Francisco State College to be a lawyer. When that did not hold my attention, I switched majors and ended up getting a Bachelor of. Art Degree in Communications.
